2021 the year of hospitality recovery

If 2020 was the year of the fall, 2021 is the year to get back on its feet. For the hospitality sector, as for the tourism sector, 2020 has been a disastrous year, due to the effect of Covid-19. According to data from the 2020 Hospitality Yearbook, from the Spanish Hospitality Employers’ Association, in 2019 the hospitality industry recorded a record year in Spain with 315,000 establishments open that turned over almost 130 billion euros, which represented a contribution of 6.2 to the national GDP, but 2020 ends with a 50% drop in turnover, with losses that could reach 67 billion euros.

Faced with this scenario, the sector is hopeful that 2021 will be the year of recovery and that with the help of the vaccine it will be possible to return to normality as soon as possible. The employers’ association predicts that in the summer a situation of normality could return, with greater confidence on the part of the national and international client, but also with more consumption at home, thus reinforcing the lines of business that many restaurants have started up: delivery and take away, segments that will continue to grow in the coming years.

Hoteliers are also awaiting the support measures from the different administrations that they have been demanding for months, considering them essential for their survival. The organizations that make up Juntos por la Hostelería (Hostelería de España, Fiab and Aecoc) insist on the need for a national rescue plan with direct aid, similar to that which has been implemented in countries such as France, Italy and Germany. According to data provided by Hostelería de España, if there is no comprehensive plan, 40% of the sector’s business fabric could be destroyed.

Others want to offer a lifeline to the sector, betting on formulas such as aid, promotions or free training. These are actions that will be carried out by companies participating in HIP 2021. Specifically, each hotelier who visits HIP will be able to benefit from 10,000 euros in discounts, the Strategy Classrooms will offer more than 100 hours of free training with ideas and solutions to boost sales and optimize management, and 300 euros vouchers will be raffled among those attending the fair, which will be held between February 15 and 17 in Madrid. Also in Yelow we wanted to do our bit with our outlet catalog, where professionals can take advantage of our clearance offers at a very special price. If you haven’t seen it , click here.

In the meantime, professionals have been able to reinvent themselves, adapting to user demand. We have seen this at Christmas lunches and dinners, where catering companies have helped to do everything safely. For their part, restaurants continue to bet on delivery and take away for both lunches and dinners this Christmas. And it is expected to continue like this, since realities such as teleworking are still in our lives. From Yelow we help all businesses that have incorporated take away and delivery to their day to day, with a line of ecological packaging with dozens of products that will make more profitable and sustainable shipments and collections.

During this time we have also seen how digitalization has become an indispensable tool for hoteliers. From reservation applications for restaurants or digital capacity control systems, to the information and promotion work done through social networks. One more way to reinforce security in business, but also to bring the company closer to the users. In Yelow we have always been committed to innovation and since a few months ago our ecommerce has made that anyone who wants to purchase many of our products can do it in the easiest and most comfortable way, both professionals and individuals.
