Delivery is consolidating and will grow 20% in the next few years
Some restaurant trends are here to stay, and two of them are delivery and take away. This 2020 will go down in history for many reasons, but also for being the year of the delivery explosion, as 23% of Spaniards say they have ordered more food at home during the confinement.
This is one of the data collected in the Barometer of Trends in Catering, which analyzes the trends and habits of citizens when they go out to eat. The study reflects some data to be taken into account for catering professionals and that show the way forward in the short and medium term:
- Sixty-three percent of respondents have ordered food at home during the state of alarm.
- Fifty-five percent of respondents have increased food orders in the past five years.
- Fifty-three percent have also opted for on-premise food pickup, better known as take away.
- Fifteen percent of respondents say they consume delivery and take away exclusively, without visiting restaurants.
- Traditional food continues to gain popularity for both home delivery and on-premise pickup, with 54 percent of respondents confessing that it is their favorite option.
In addition to these data, the barometer also highlights consumers’ commitment to increasingly healthier food when they go out. This fact is related to the good moment being experienced by vegan and vegetarian restaurants, which have very loyal customers.
In addition, consumers are also concerned about sustainability and environmental friendliness. Nearly 50 percent of respondents say they order leftover food to take away and a very similar number demand that packaging used for delivery and take away should be recyclable.
